Description

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 34 garlic cloves, freshly minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast in a bowl, then let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy, indicating the yeast is active. Add flour, olive oil, and salt, mixing well until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size, making the knots soft and airy.
  3. Shape the Knots: Punch down the risen dough and divide into equal small pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope, then tie each rope into a loose knot. Arrange knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
  4. Second Rise: Cover the shaped knots and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes for fluffier results when baked.
  5. Bake the Knots: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the knots for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top and fully cooked inside.
  6. Prepare the Garlic Butter: While baking, melt butter in a small saucepan. Stir in freshly minced garlic and chopped parsley.
  7. Brush and Serve Warm: Immediately after removing from the oven, brush the knots generously with the garlic butter mixture. Let cool slightly, then serve warm to enjoy the buttery garlic flavor at its best.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for the most vibrant flavor rather than powdered garlic.
  • Do not over-knead the dough; stop once it is smooth and elastic to ensure tenderness.
  • Allow the dough to rise fully twice to achieve the fluffiest knots.
  • Keep an eye on the baking time to avoid over-browning or undercooking.
  • Brush knots with garlic butter immediately after baking to help it soak in perfectly.
