Description

Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich featuring crispy golden bread and perfectly melted cheese. Easy and quick to prepare with simple pantry staples, this comforting meal is customizable with various cheeses, breads, and optional extras. Ideal for a satisfying lunch or cozy dinner, loved by all ages.

Ingredients

Scale

Fresh Bread

  • 2 slices sturdy bread such as sourdough or thick white bread

Quality Cheese

  • 23 slices of cheddar, American, or mozzarella cheese

Butter

  • 2 tablespoons softened butter

Optional Extras

  • Garlic powder (to taste)
  • Tomato slices (2-3 slices)
  • Fresh herbs like parsley or basil (for garnish)
  • Spinach, avocado, roasted peppers, bacon, ham, turkey slices, chili flakes, sriracha, or mayonnaise (optional mix-ins)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Slice your chosen bread and cheese if not pre-sliced to ensure smooth assembly and even melting.
  2. Butter the Bread: Generously spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice; the buttered side will be grilled to a perfect golden crisp.
  3. Assemble the Sandwich: Place the cheese slices between the non-buttered sides of the bread so the buttered sides face outwards.
  4. Heat the Pan: Preheat a skillet or frying pan over medium-low heat to allow gradual melting and browning without burning the bread.
  5. Grill the Sandwich: Place the sandwich in the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing slightly with a spatula for even grilling and melted cheese.
  6. Serve It Warm: Remove the sandwich once both sides are crisp and cheese is melted, slice as preferred, and serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Cook on medium-low heat to melt cheese fully without burning bread.
  • Tent the pan with a lid slightly to trap heat and aid cheese melting.
  • Press lightly with a spatula while grilling to promote even crust formation.
  • Substitute mayonnaise for butter for a tangy flavor and crispier finish.
  • Combine different cheeses for richer, gooier texture and complex flavor.
